If you have lost your job, or if you are worried about the future for you or your family, we want you to speak out. Together, we [...]

Drop The Bill

The Government is planning the biggest re-organisation of the NHS since it began in 1948. It is unnecessary, unwanted, wasteful and damaging – and threatens to end the NHS as we know it. Only last year, the Government promised people they wouldn’t do it. Many thousands of people have already called on the Government to stop. But they are ploughing on, ignoring public and professional opinion, out of touch with Britain.  We need to make the Government listen before it’s [...]

Hi, I’m Beckie, I’m a fifteen year old girl in britain, and thousands of teachers try spread the word about bullying; but they’re adults, I want to show things from a teenagers perspective.   Almost half of all children and young people (46%) say that they’ve been bullied at some point during their time at school and these shocking numbers may be rising. I want to make a change. Please join me by clicking the link and signing the [...]

The Robin Hood Tax

November 16, 2011 3:13 pm 1 comment

We have supported this tax for a long while, our candidate at the general election put his weight behind it, and it became an issue again at the G20 summit.   Over the course of the G20, a group of G20 countries from France to Brazil backed the Robin Hood Tax, under pressure from trade unions, development NGOs and climate change campaigners. The link between the Robin Hood Tax and fighting poverty and climate change at home and abroad became [...]

This was another good evening provided by Lewes Trades Council 2011 Festival.  Some photo’s from the evening at the Elephant and Castle last night, including the LAbour Party Banner banner.  Quite a number of Party  members attended and were made very welcome.  We enjoyed Rob Johnson’s songs again.  Attila played fiddle, banjo, read moving poetry about his mother, and sang some wicked songs, including a very funny one about Maggie Thatcher.

Labours Plan for Jobs

This is a really worrying time for families and businesses; struggling with higher food prices and gas bills and worried about their jobs and their children’s futures.  The Tory-led Government are cutting too far and too fast and risk choking off economic recovery. Unemployment is rising again and is currently at the highest level in 17 years.  One in five young people are out of work and now more women are unemployed than at any time since 1988.  We need [...]

Are the Greens divided in Lewes

Its a simple enough question, with a lead Green Councillor: Matt Kent leaving the Green Party fold to become an independent.  We have to ask why he felt the need to leave after being committed to the green cause.  What would so put him off, what would divide the Greens.  In Lewes they seem to have a habit of losing councillors or people leaving. Perhaps they will offer some transparency on these matters? Matt has his own web site that [...]

There is no place like home

You may have heard the news that under this Tory-led Government, there has been a 17% increase in the number of families losing their homes. These aren’t just dry statistics – they are real families facing homelessness.  The Government must change course, stop cutting too far and too fast and come up with a Plan B for the economy – before more people lose their homes.
