At Least Labour runs the country

How the political scene across Lewes District is changing.  Back in October of last year in the Lewes Labour Blog we commented as we have done so many times in the past: what are Norman Baker and the Liberals doing for Lewes, now we find that like most of our good ideas the Torys like to claim them as their own, they are asking the same question.

As Lord Baker of Iraq and Tory Jason Syrup fight it out.  Labour is taking the more considered view on how the world financial crisis going to effect you hoping for forsight, prudence and decisive action from our elected representatives.

So as the Liberal Democrats have crowed over the past years, Labour has no councillors, we would say you are absolutely right.

No councillors at District level who have wasted our money on pet schemes or invested 1 million in Iceland banks and now can’t get it back.  Labour Brighton heeded advice and took measure last year to protect local financial interests.

And as we watch the Liberals pour our money down the drain up jumps the multicoloured (ex-labour, now green) Town Councillor Murray calling for council housing. He could have been challenging the Lib-Dems at every opportunity, he could have been campaigning for a better environment, by putting pressure on the District and County Council to repair cracked pavements, empty litter bins and stop the post code lottery of recycling facilities. However, the local Green Party tell us in their last newsletter they have been enjoying looking at Baxter prints for an exhibition  and been impressed by the Railway Land.

At least Labour are running the country,  so we are in with a chance.

Are the Greens divided in Lewes

Its a simple enough question, with a lead Green Councillor: Matt Kent leaving the Green Party fold to become an independent.  We have to ask why he felt the need to leave after being committed to the green cause.  What would so put him off, what would divide the Greens.  In Lewes they seem to have a habit of losing councillors or people leaving. Perhaps they will offer some transparency on these matters? Matt has his own web site that [...]

There is no place like home

You may have heard the news that under this Tory-led Government, there has been a 17% increase in the number of families losing their homes. These aren’t just dry statistics – they are real families facing homelessness.  The Government must change course, stop cutting too far and too fast and come up with a Plan B for the economy – before more people lose their homes. Help us send that message by signing the petition
