Norman Baker has no Solutions

Our Lib Dem MP Norman Baker has been sounding off about the parking scheme in Lewes but as usual offered nothing in the way of suggested improvements. Whilst he spends his time worrying about David Kelly rather than his constituents, perhaps we need to look again at what the scheme is there for.
Clearly there is a need to prevent people who drive to work or commute from Lewes from parking all day for free in the Town Centre. But does the pay and permit scheme need to extend so far into residential areas that are a good 15 minute walk from the Town Centre and even further from the station.
The scheme also has a negative effect on retailers and businesses in the town. Surely there could be a more flexible scheme on School Hill and the High Street which might benefit retailers and shoppers such as restricting meter operation to one or two hours per day or allowing free parking up to 20 minutes. This would still prevent all day parking and would reduce the costs and inconvenience of the existing scheme.
What we have at the moment clearly works in nobody’s interests except raising money for the Tory County Council.
Perhaps if Norman Baker put some time into pressuring his fellow Lib Dems and Tories rather than becoming the next Jeffrey Archer we might get somewhere.

Perhaps they will offer some transparency on these matters? Matt has his own web site that [...]

There is no place like home

You may have heard the news that under this Tory-led Government, there has been a 17% increase in the number of families losing their homes. These aren’t just dry statistics – they are real families facing homelessness.  The Government must change course, stop cutting too far and too fast and come up with a Plan B for the economy – before more people lose their homes.
